Beach bod

Warning: This post is not intended for the male species. Please avert your eyes to the secrets of women.

Summer is a weird time for fashion when you think about it. We wear 20% of the clothes we would usually wear and show 98% more skin and that other two percent is barely even covered.

First thing’s first. What is it that we want to achieve? Kim Kardashian’s  pre-preggers bod? Maybe something more within our reach, hmm?

Hair. Skin. Shape. That’s the checklist.

We want it on our head. That is all.

No shaving this month. Shaving rash is not an attractive look nor is it comfortable. Spend a little on a beauty day and get waxed or grab some waxing strips for a DIY day.

Veet Hair Removal Cream is really messy but it works well. I don’t like the smell or the feeling but it has good reviews. However, a lot of people have reported that it is too harsh on their skin and leaves a rash.

Nair Easiwax Wax Pot has good reviews although it doesn’t remove small hairs so you have to grow any hair before it can be waxed properly.

Boots own brand waxing strips should be avoided. According to reviews it causes bruising and doesn’t work well.

Spots are not fun, they have never been fun and they never will be fun. Make sure your skin is clear by exfoliating weekly and washing daily (depending on skin condition).

Bio Oil is worth every penny. Daily appliances on unwanted marks will result in visibly clearer skin.

Nivea Day Cream – it’s much cheaper in supermarkets. It’s SPF15 but it’s also light so it doesn’t make your face oily. Always buy face creams that have SPF15 in them as it prevents premature ageing.

We all want the perf beach body.

Swim to tone up your body. Don’t waste money on a gym membership if you won’t go. There is nothing wrong with running in the park. (I know the idea of running in public seems awkward but if you wake up early and put in your headphones then who cares what anyone else thinks.)

Zumba is around £5 (depending on location) and it’s a fun way to lose weight by dancing.

Run for charity – this is a great way to motivate yourself. Doing it for someone else will help you overcome your fear of running in public. As well as raising money for good causes it has the added bonus of knocking off pounds.

That’s it. It’s not difficult and you feel great when you look great.

Good luck!

Spring Fling

Woah! Don’t all rush to blug (blog-hug) me. Am I really back? I don’t know… you tell me. Confused? Me too. Okay – let’s get this show on the road.

I leafed through all the Grazia mags I have lying around my bedroom and I put together a set of bits that I liked:

It’s Spring… the weather is iffy – is it warm or cold? Denim is the perfect in-between weather material. Rock a pair of dungarees with a jumper underneath. Remember it’s Spring so no dark denim –  faded pale denim is the way to go.

Cheaper alternatives to the items above:

Denim shirt – wear with a pair of printed leggings as the shirt’s quite simple.

Monochrome is generally avoided however a dress in a style that suits your figure is great for Spring. Finding dresses is easy online – go onto websites like ASOS and change the search filters. This allows you to control the price range, the colours etc.

Sort out a new wardrobe for 2013. It doesn’t have to cost you every penny in the piggy bank but browse online and visit stores like Primark and don’t be afraid to hit the sales. Punkyfish recently had a sale and everything was £5. Deals like that aren’t to be missed.

The most important thing is to buy a top that you can wear with numerous different things because otherwise you’ll end up with a top that you can only wear with one skirt. You must also only buy items if you really like them – if you’re indifferent, don’t buy it.

Go for something different. Have a fling this Spring, you don’t have to marry each style but you should experiment with them. Try out a playsuit or a skater dress. If you never wear leggings then ditch your worn out jeans and grab yourself a pair. I love the Current/Elliot denim because they’re different and exciting – the perf combination for this season.

You’re not stylish.

… at least not according to half the population and the other half doesn’t particularly care. That’s just how I like it.

This is a fashion post but it’s not about clothes instead it’s about what fashion is. Most fashion blogger post outfits and state the trends. This post is more about discovering fashion.

A lot of girls and boys wear ‘what’s fashionable’. Often they don’t take it from magazines but they take it from what they see other people wearing – Street Style. I think Street Style is the best place to look for inspiration because you wouldn’t see people wearing clothes on the runways aren’t particularly suitable for our everyday lives.

Rule 1#: Despite what people say, everyone dresses for other people. That doesn’t make you a people-pleaser – it makes you smart. If you dress well then you feel confident, so in a way, you dress for yourself as well.

Rule 2#: Being fashionable doesn’t mean you should wear the craziest outfits. If you dress well then you stand out as well. Many fashion designers try and put together outfits that have never been thought of before and often this has catastrophic results. Luckily for us, we have neither the money nor the lack of intelligence to buy said clothes. (Sorry fashion designers – I don’t mean all of you.)

So, to sum up: you don’t need to wear extravagant outfits to be fashionable – unless you like them. You also don’t need to wear what everyone else is wearing or always focus on the brand name. If something looks good then it looks good. End of story.

The internet was made for fashion sharing. If you’re not sure about what to wear with something then Google it. Reading fashion magazines like (Grazia) will help you establish what looks good with what. It gives you a broad outline of what fashion is. However, don’t be restricted by magazines and the internet.

90s kid.

Beach, mountain, forest, or somewhere else entirely?

Today’s prompt was very open-ended. I know exactly where I want to be right now and it’s none of the above.

I want to be back in the 90s.

What’s not to love? The fashion was iffy. Personally, I feel like the 90s was a little less fashion orientated than the 80s. The 90s was a learning curve for music, television and what-not-to-wear.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S, The Simpsons, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Rugrats, Buffy the Vampire Slayer… what has television come to? Made in Chelsea has nothing on The Fresh Prince (that’s not to say I don’t watch it anyway).

For me, the one fashion trend that represents everything the 90s was about is the backwards cap. Will Smith rocked it and so did I when I was still in a Tigger baby grow. Do you have new-found respect for me now?

The music was legendary. NSync, Destiny’s Child, S Club 7, Snoop Dog, Weezer and even The Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme tune is rapped by kids everywhere.

However, there were many awful fashion statements of the 90s especially bleached hair – I’m looking at you Justin Timberlake. That look was never cool.

That being said, I can remember the days when one wore their baggy jeans above one’s rear end and it reminds me that some things were better left unchanged.

Fashion at the Brits

In all honesty, few outfits were praise-worthy this year. Let’s take a look at some of the fashion faux pas that were dropped on the red carpet…

Gemma Arterton. You have soiled the good name of Bond Girls.  I fail to see how this Jonathan Saunders dress complements you. Usually looking sexy with your hair perfectly done, I can only assume you were late for the awards and didn’t have enough time to prepare. We’ve all been there. Ed Sheeran? Oh Ed. One does not wear Nike trainers with a suit and generally one wears a suit that fits. That said, you do look sweet in an unkept, baggy kind of way.

gross hell yes   Boys, you did well. The suits were on point. However, I have my reserves about Niall’s choice of shoes. What is it with men and shoes? Shoes MUST MATCH the outfit. Luckily for you, your Irish accent excuses your dress sense. 1D wore a variety of Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Topman and ASOS and looked fine.hotttttttttttttThe girls were looking gorgeous, as expected. LBD no longer stands for Little Black Dress. Long is now the fashion. Taylor took me by surprise with her floor-length Elie Saab gown with thigh-high slits. Needless to say, most of the girls abided by the Boobs or Bum rule – if you have a low-cut dress then it should be long and if it is short then the neck-line should be modest.yes

Due to lack of hilarity at the event, which I expected to be brimming with gossip and other exciting things, the fashion became a focus for most mags. Despite being slightly disappointing, there were a few outfits that broke the mould between celebrity and commoner (yes, that’s us). The Long Black Dress is definitely the way to go this year – elegant but hot.

Cara D – hot for 2013

Cara Delevigne hangs out with Justin Bieber, Harry Styles, Rita Ora, Rihanna and seems to be kicking off 2013 with Chanel haute couture fashion shoots. I like her because she’s relatable and I don’t mean because I hang out with celebrities. Her Instagram is packed with photos of her pulling faces and mucking about with her friends. Rumour has it that she dated Harry Styles for a bit but they aren’t together now. A lot of clothes worn on the catwalk won’t find their way past the Red Carpet but might end up in the wardrobes of the more elaborately dressed *Lady Gaga*so it’s unsurprising that some of what Cara wears isn’t massively appealing to me but I am in love with her Street Style. Google ‘Cara Delevigne street style’ and you can check it out yourself. When she’s not modelling for Burberry with Romeo Beckham she’s grabbing a burger at McDonald’s. How perf is that?!

Like her page on Facebook – lots of her photos (modelling and otherwise) are uploaded there. It’s worth checking out because she has a few cool styles that I’m thinking of rocking in Spring. Hats and snapbacks are the way to go, me thinks.
